Me and Strainj just got off work
Hit the liquor store to erk and jerk
Go back home, grap a cup
Put a tape in, turn the stereo up
Start smokin'
Start sippin'
Start laughin'
Start trippin'
The gangsta house on the block
Stereo bumpin' with major knock
Crazy G's
Rollin' D's
Pull into the side, shoot the breeze
Smoke some weed, drink some brew
Sell a CD, make a dollar too
Crack some jokes, discuss some plans
Push for time so we slappin' hands
He hopped in the car, let the Daytons twirl
Yeah
Fuck the corporate world
Drinkin' on the sidewalk
Oww
Dancin' while we talk
(Dancin' while we talk)
Hoppin' in the caddy
Glide like a chickenhawk
(Yeah)
I got off work, went to the club
The guy at the door charged me a dub
Stuck up bitches wouldn't dance, security guard pullin' up my pants
Macho niggas tryinna start a fight
Couldn't get the bartender all damn night
(*laughin*)Oh, the DJ was gay
He had a flat top like Kid And Play
And he was kissin' those bitches' asses
With the Urkel (?) pants and them Dwayne Wayne glasses
Whack rap music all night long
I didn't even hear one good song
Fuck the club, i'll stay home
System beat good in my Fleetwood Broug
Hit the liquor store, buy 4-0
Drinkin' on the sidewalk, you know?
Drinkin' on the sidewalk
Dancin' while we talk
Hoppin' in the caddy
(Zoop, zoop)
Glide like a chicken hawk
Drinkin' on the sidewalk
Dancin' while we talk
Hoppin' in the caddy
(Zoop, zoop, yeah)
Glide like a chicken hawk
Walk up drunk to a hoodrat, get her number just like that
She said she might not do nothing tonight
Told "Come through" and she said alright
Baby came through with the ghetto girls
Called up the homies with the Chucks and curls
Sent the hoodrats to the liquor store
Coz' nobody tryinna shoot them, you know
Waitin' on the bitches, rollin' blunts
Tonight we'll be pullin' major stunts
We got music, we got food
We got time to get 'em in the mood
Porch light off, dark in the front
All you can see is the light from the blunt
Every now and then, she dance
I dance with her while i sag my pants
Drinkin' on the sidewalk
Dancin' while we talk
Hoppin' in the caddy
Glide like a chicken hawk
Drinkin' on the sidewalk
Dancin' while we talk
Hoppin' in the caddy
Glide like a chicken hawk
Oww
Buccooc

Afroman

Joseph ‘Afroman’ Foreman began writing songs and handing them out to his friends on cassette while in the eighth grade. At 25 years old, he released his first album, 1999’s Sell Your Dope. Soon after, he moved from LA to Mississippi with the mission to ‘get away from competition and sell to actual people’, releasing his sophomore album Because I Got High in 2000 on T-Bones Records. Its title track, written hastily after a friend showed up and interrupted him on an ambitious day and insisted they instead get high, was the last song he had recorded for the album. Soon after, Afroman left the music business.

At the same time, the file-sharing software Napster – heavily used at the time to share and distribute music for free – was at its peak of popularity, and the album’s title track became popular with its users. Universal Records caught wind and signed Afroman to a six album deal and released it as a single on July 6, 2001.

“Because I Got High” immediately became one of the most-requested songs across the nation, growing even larger after syndicated morning radio show host Howard Stern began airing it regularly, helping to make it ‘the most requested song on the radio in the country’. Further boosting its popularity was its inclusion in the film (and soundtrack to) Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back and MTV’s eventual agreement to air a modified, less-controversial music video for the song. It peaked at #13 in the US, and topped the charts in ten countries overseas. Its album The Good Times reached #10 in the US.
