[Verse 1]
Bad news like a sucker punch, what do you say?
Air knocked out of my lungs, your cue to stay
When you hear something difficult, don't back away
Some people say nothing, good ones engage

[Pre-Chorus]
Don't turn your back on me
Don't bury your head deep
Just cause you don't know what to say

[Chorus]
It's true
That it kicks you in the teeth when you are least expecting
Bad news
Oh, it beats you black and blue before you see it coming

[Verse 2]
Bad news like a sucker punch blew me away
People fill the streets like nothing has changed
Clock hands tick along they don't look the same
Planes fly overhead like any old day

[Pre-Chorus]
Don't turn your back on me
Don't bury your head deep
Just cause you don't know what to say

[Chorus]
It's true
That it kicks you in the teeth when you are least expecting
Bad news
Oh, it beats you black and blue before you see it coming

[Bridge]
Maybe I just want some words of distraction
I feel like I'm being consumed
Maybe I'm expecting the perfect reaction
To pull me back (back, back, back, back, back, back, back)

[Chorus]
It's true
That it kicks you in the teeth when you are least expecting
Bad news
Oh, it beats you black and blue before you see it co-
It's true (So true)
That it kicks you in the teeth when you are least expecting
Bad news (True)
Oh, it beats you black and blue before you see it coming

[Outro]
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see
You see it coming
Bad news
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see it
You see it coming
Bad news
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see it coming
Before, before you see it
You see it coming
Bad news

Bastille is a British indie pop band. After releasing a limited single in 2010 and the Laura Palmer EP in 2011, the band was signed to Virgin Records. Following their signing, the band released two mix-tapes – Other People’s Heartache and Other People’s Heartache Pt. 2 — for free. In an interview with The Guardian, Dan Smith discussed the

Someone recently said to ‘The mixtapes were very clever, was that the label’s idea?’ Actually the label were completely against it; we were stealing and sampling illegally left, right and centre. The label ‘We want nothing to do with this.’ When it came to hosting the mixtapes, I had to register the website myself.

Preceding the release of their debut album, Bad Blood, the band released several singles — “Overjoyed”, “Bad Blood” and “Flaws”— to moderate commercial success. In February 2013, the band was catapulted into the charts by the album’s fourth single, “Pompeii”. The song was a commercial hit, going up to 5x Platinum around the world. In June 2014, “Pompeii” was confirmed to be the United Kingdom’s most streamed song ever. Unfortunately, it has since been overtaken.
