[Chorus]
I never promised you a happy ending
You never said you wouldn't make me cry
But summer love will keep us warm long after
Our autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye
Autumn goodbye

[Verse 1]
Thinking of you and the love of our lives
In the sweet summertime
So sad, but true (So true, so true)
We must leave it behind
In our hearts, in our minds

[Pre-Chorus]
From April through September
Bittersweet was the love that we share
Don't forget; I remember

[Chorus]
I never promised you a happy ending (You never said)
You never said you wouldn't make me cry (But summer love)
But summer love will keep us warm long after
Our autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye
I never promised you a happy ending (You never said)
You never said you wouldn't make me cry (But summer love)
But summer love will keep us warm long after
Our autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye

[Verse 2]
Memories can fade (they can fade)
But my heart has a place for the smile on your face (on your face)
And maybe someday we can be more than friends
Love will find us again
Red leaves and blue tomorrows
Time will give back the love that we shared
On the time that we borrowed

[Pre-Chorus]
From April through September
Bittersweet was the love that we share
Don't forget; I remember, baby

[Chorus]
I never promised you a happy ending (You never said)
You never said you wouldn't make me cry (But summer love)
But summer love will keep us warm long after
Our autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye
Autumn goodbye
I never promised you a happy ending (You never said)
You never said you wouldn't make me cry (But summer love)
But summer love will keep us warm long after
Our autumn goodbye, autumn goodbye
Autumn goodbye

[Bridge]
We'll leave behind the summertime
Our hearts, our minds
They will remind
We won't forget
The day we met
The day we cried
Autumn goodbye

Britney Spears

Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American singer and actress. Born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, she performed acting roles in stage productions and television shows as a child before signing with Jive Records in 1997.

Spears’s first and second studio albums, …Baby One More Time and Oops!… I Did It Again, became international successes, with the former becoming the best-selling album by a teenage solo artist. Title tracks “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again” broke international sales records, with the former reaching number one in every country it charted in. In 2001, Spears released her self-titled third studio album, Britney, and played the starring role in the film Crossroads (2002). She assumed creative control of her fourth studio album, In the Zone, which yielded the worldwide success of the single “Toxic.”

In 2007, Spears’s much-publicized personal issues sent her career into hiatus. Her fifth studio album, Blackout, was released later that year, and spawned hits such as “Gimme More” and “Piece of Me”.
