Why should I feel discouraged?
And why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely
And long for heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion
My constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me

I sing because I am happy
I sing because I am free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me

"Let not your heart be troubled"
His tender words I hear
And resting on His goodness
I lose all my doubts and all of my fears
Though by His path He leadeth
Though just one step I may see
God's eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me

So I sing because I am happy
And I sing because I am free
God's eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me, yeah

Ooh...
(His eye is on the sparrow)
(He watches over me)
And I know
(His eye is on the sparrow)
I know He's watching me
(He watches over me)
(His eye is on the sparrow)
I'm so grateful He's watching over me
(He watches over me)
God's eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me
