[Verse 1: Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
The day was nearly over
They were hosing down the hulls
They caught sight of her poor body
In the rushes and the mud

She lay where she had fallen
They had hunted high and low
But winter had come early
And she'd been covered up by snow

[Verse 2: Exene Cervenka & Shirley Manson]
It took an hour to cut her
From the spot where she was found
A bright red velvet ribbon
Was tangled in her gown

Her skin was icy white
Her veins were thin and blue
There was black ink on her fingers
And blood on her toes and her shoes

[Pre-Chorus: John Doe & Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
Bees made honey upon her lips
Lips I waited so long to kiss
She seemed so pure without a doubt
'Til the last red drop leaked out

[Chorus: John Doe & Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
Destroying angels
I knew you so well
Destroying angels
No lies will you tell
No lies will you tell

[Verse 3: Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
Some things they are so painful
No words for them exist
And everyone was solemn
As they laid her in the dirt

I stood trembling by her graveside
With everybody else
My sins and all my secrets burned
Like fat inside my chest

[Verse 4: Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
I could tell you that I loved her more
Than I ever loved myself
I could swear I'd never harm a hair
Upon her lovely head

But I stole her savage beauty
She will never lie again
I stuffed her full of death caps
And it killed my angel dead

[Pre-Chorus: John Doe & Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
Bees made honey upon her lips
Lips I've waited so long to kiss
She seemed so pure without a doubt
'Til the last red drop leaked out

[Chorus: John Doe & Shirley Manson & Exene Cervenka]
Destroying angels
I knew you so well
Destroying angels
No lies will you tell
No lies will you tell

Destroying angels
I knew you so well
Destroying angels
No lies will you tell
No lies will you tell

Destroying angels
I knew you so well
Destroying angels
No lies will you tell
No more lies
No lies will you tell
No more lies
No lies will you tell
No more lies
No lies will you tell

Garbage

Garbage is a Scottish-American Alternative rock band, formed April 8th 1994. Once producer Butch Vig decided to break out of the rock he had been producing ever since Nirvana’s Nevermind, he got together with his college/studio partners Duke Erikson and Steve Marker to write some demos that would basically be remixes in song form. Once someone commented that “it sounds like garbage”, Vig decided to embrace the name. Then they invited Scottish singer Shirley Manson after seeing her on MTV, and the band’s sound was completed with sly, dark and snarky lyrics delivered in a sultry way.

The band’s eponymous debut album was a surprise hit upon release in August 1995, selling more than 4 million copies worldwide. Follow-up Version 2.0 (1998) was equally successful, even receiving a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Then the band recorded “The World Is Not Enough” to the eponymous James Bond movie, and the record industry started to bring the band down.

Beautiful Garbage (2001) was barely promoted due to a release too close to the 9/11 attacks, and underperformed at the charts. Fourth album Bleed Like Me (2005) had a troubled production where bandmembers were frequently arguing, and eventually the album’s tour was cut short and Garbage disbanded for 2 years, only regrouped in 2007 to record new tracks for greatest hits compilation Absolute Garbage.
