[Intro: John Legend]
Lalalalalalalalalalalaaa, ooooh

[Verse 1: John Legend]
From the very first time back when I met you at school
I looked in your eyes, saw something special in you
We inspire that we will be American dream
Escape this reality, come start a new one with me

[Pre-Chorus: John Legend]
We could be neighborhood royalty
Or much more than that you'll see, we're makin' history
We'll go to the mass, fly to heaven and back
The highest heights imagine, yes, as we can do all of that, baby

[Chorus: John Legend]
La la la la la la la la la la la
We could be King & Queen someday
La la la la la la la la la la la
We'll never throw our dreams away

[Verse 2: Mary J. Blige]
We'll make this picture complete, start a new family
A boy that looks just like you, a girl that looks just like me
And each day that they grow, we'll teach them all that we know
Help me show them the way
We'll show them we're not afraid to be free

[Pre-Chorus: Mary J. Blige]
The only thing that should be
The fliest fantasies, the highest they can dream
Grab hold to my hand, say that you'll be my man
Someday you'll be my king and baby I'm your queen to be

[Chorus: John Legend & Mary J. Blige]
La la la la la la la la la la la
We could be King & Queen someday, someday
La la la la la la la la la la la
We'll never throw our dreams away

[Bridge: John Legend + Mary J. Blige]
Cities may crumble, the world is in trouble
But we'll be in love and we'll rise above it
Each of our people, pray for a leader
I know we will be someday, someday, oh
Someday, someday, someday, oh, someday

[Chorus: John Legend & Mary J. Blige]
La la la la la la la la la la la
We'll never throw our dreams away
La la la la la la la la la la la
We could be King & Queen someday
La la la la la la la la la la la
We could be King & Queen someday, someday
La la la la la la la la la la la
We'll never throw our dreams away

John Legend

John Legend was born in 1978 in Ohio. He became an in-demand session musician and songwriter, working with such artists as Alicia Keys, Twista and Janet Jackson. He was soon introduced to up-and-coming hip-hop artist Kanye West, and the two musicians collaborated on one another’s demos.

J. Ivy claims credit for bestowing the “Legend” moniker upon John Stephens (with an assist from Kanye West). Via

Kanye was like, ‘Have you heard of this singer called John Stephens?’ He played me this song from him, that I think will.i.am produced. It was so refreshing and soulful. An hour later, John Stephens comes into the studio. I told him, ‘I heard your music. It’s so amazing. It sounds old school. Man, you sound like one of the legends. You’re a legend. Matter of fact, that’s what I am going to call you from now The Legend. A couple days later, we were in the lounge of the studio (Record Plant) and John Stephens walks in and everyone shouts him out. I was like, ‘John Legend!’ Kanye then said, ‘You’re John Legend from now on. That’s your name!’”
