[Intro]
We care a lot
We care a lot

[Verse 1]
(We care a lot) About disasters, fires, floods and killer bees
About the NASA's, and the falling, and the seas
(We care a lot) About starvation and the food that Live Aid bought
(We care a lot) About disease, baby, Rock, Hudson, rock! What?

[Chorus 1]
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job but, someone's gotta do it
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job but, someone's gotta do it (We care a lot)

[Verse 2]
(We care a lot)
(We care a lot) About the gamblers, and the pushers, and the freaks
About the smack, and crack, and wack that hit the streets!
(We care a lot) About the welfare of all you boys and girls
(We care a lot) About you people, 'cause we're out to save the world! What?

[Chorus 2]
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it

[Verse 3]
(We care a lot) About the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines
(We care a lot) About the NY, SF, and LAPD
(We care a lot) About you people
(We care a lot) About your guns
(We care a lot) About the wars we're fighting. Gee, that looks like fun
(We care a lot) About our free speech, and not the FCC's
(We care a lot) About tide we made with Beatles on MTV
(We care a lot) About the little things, the bigger things we top
(We care a lot) About you people, yeah, you bet we care a lot! What?

[Chorus 3]
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it
Oh, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it

Bakersfield friends James “Munky” Shaffer, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and David Silveria formed the funk-rock band LAPD in 1989 and moved to Los Angeles with another friend Brian “Head” Welch as their roadie. Later, with Welch as second guitarist, the band named themselves Creep and recorded a demo with pal Ross Robinson.

However, when Shaffer and Welch visited family in Bakersfield, they met Jonathan Davis who added a darker, goth-tinged edge to the band’s heavy groove. Robinson

The band wasn’t dark yet; it had, like, killer grooves and good riffs, but there was some happy edge to it. And when (Davis) walked into the room, it went dark and goth. Basically, during the first song, to audition in the rehearsal room, he started freaking the hell out [laughs]. You couldn’t hear his voice, but you felt chills all over your body, and it was instantly like, “Oh my God, yeah – he’s the one.”
