[Verse 1]
We are the ones taking all the pain
Falling on our faces they don't care anyway, anyway, now
You're the one that makes me feel like I'm alive
You're the one that pushes me all the time, all the time, now
We are hard at play
Always praised to do what they say
Calling me to rage
Feeling power, I must take its place some way

[Chorus]
(Oh)
Never gonna run, away seeking out my path
But the pain always gets in the way (Oh)
Slowly watch me die, I'm insane so dangerous
Don't you dare get in my way (Oh)
Throwing in the towel got me strained, so betrayed
Get the fuck out of my way (Oh)
Looking at my thoughts, I take my time
Pounding all these spikes in my veins

[Verse 2]
We are the ones reaching out in vain
Trying to solve our problems they won't go away, go away now
You're the one that makes me feel like I'm alive
You're the one that pushes me all the time, all the time, now
We are hard at play
Always praised to do what they say
Calling me deranged
Feeling power, I must take its place some way

[Chorus]
(Oh)
Never gonna run, away seeking out my path
But the pain always gets in the way (Oh)
Slowly watch me die, I'm insane so dangerous
Don't you dare get in my way (Oh)
Throwing in the towel got me strained, so betrayed
Get the fuck out of my way (Oh)
Looking at my thoughts, I take my time
Pounding all these spikes in my veins

[Bridge]
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins

[Chorus]

[Outro]
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Pounding all these spikes in my veins
Looking at my thoughts, I take my time
Pounding all these spikes in my veins

Bakersfield friends James “Munky” Shaffer, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and David Silveria formed the funk-rock band LAPD in 1989 and moved to Los Angeles with another friend Brian “Head” Welch as their roadie. Later, with Welch as second guitarist, the band named themselves Creep and recorded a demo with pal Ross Robinson.

However, when Shaffer and Welch visited family in Bakersfield, they met Jonathan Davis who added a darker, goth-tinged edge to the band’s heavy groove. Robinson

The band wasn’t dark yet; it had, like, killer grooves and good riffs, but there was some happy edge to it. And when (Davis) walked into the room, it went dark and goth. Basically, during the first song, to audition in the rehearsal room, he started freaking the hell out [laughs]. You couldn’t hear his voice, but you felt chills all over your body, and it was instantly like, “Oh my God, yeah – he’s the one.”
