[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
It's twilight and I wake up hot
My body's soaked in a cold, cold sweat
I re-enact the lurid scenes
And clawed engravings in my head

[Chorus]
Oh, I can't punch hard enough (and I run)
I can't kick high enough (and I run)
I can't shoot straight enough (and I run)
I can't hold on enough (and I run)
Oh, I can't stay down enough (and I run)
I can't take pain enough (and I run)
I can't bleed fast enough
I can't die dead enough

[Verse 2]
The air is thick, but the oxygen's thin
My heart is beating like a drum (boom)
And ice is flowing through my veins
Explosives on my lips, and in my lungs

[Bridge]
I don't know what I'm running from
And I don't know where I'm running to
There's something deep and strange inside of me, I see
I don't know what I'm running from
And I don't know where I'm running to
Something's compelling me to run into the dark

[Verse 3]
And now I am more driven than before
And now I live just to settle score
And now I feel the nearness of your breath
Now I introduce you to your death

[Instrumental Break]

[Outro]
I am more driven than before
I live just to settle score
I feel the nearness of your breath
Now I introduce you to your death
I can't punch hard enough
I can't kick high enough
I can't shoot straight enough
I can't hold on enough
I can't stay down enough (die dead enough)
I can't take pain enough (die dead enough)
I can't bleed fast enough (die dead enough)
I can't die dead enough (die dead enough)

Megadeth

After being kicked out of Metallica, Dave Mustaine decided to form a Thrash Metal band that not only rivaled his former band, but played faster, more technical Metal. Along with bassist David ‘Junior’ Ellefson and a revolving door of guitarists and drummers, Mustaine set the world afire as Megadeth became known as the world’s state-of-the-art Speed Metal band throughout the 80s and the early 90s. One of the Big Four of Thrash Metal, Megadeth remains one of Metal’s most popular acts today.

However, Dave Mustaine’s fledgling band got off to a shaky start. Initially unable to find like-minded individuals, it was not until an altercation with his (underage) downstairs neighbours Dave Ellefson and Greg Handevidt, that led to him buying them beer and forming the first incarnation of the band with drummer Dijon Carruthers in 1983.

The band was named after a political pamphlet that referred to a “megadeath” (one million deaths by nuclear explosion):
