[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
The tides of change pulled us apart
I feel a familiar pain
It seems like years since we've loved or even liked
And that's a lonely way to be

[Refrain]
Drifting alone in a sea of agony
Your face I can't recognise
Don't make this hard on us
I will miss you if you just go away

[Pre-Chorus]
I did no right, you did no wrong
Nothing left but wasted days
I regret you leaving
But I will never take you back

[Spoken]
"You know what? It's over. I just don't feel the same way as I used to. We've been together forever, but it's over, but it's over, it's over."

[Chorus]
Goodbye, one thousand times goodbye
The thought never crossed my mind
That this would be my last goodbye
Let me put pennies on your eyes
And kiss your lips one last goodbye
My love, one thousand times goodbye

[Verse 2]
It seems nothing good is free
A good thing cost much more than the price
You were good, but not that good, don't kid yourself
Now it's time to break up

[Refrain]
Drifting alone in a sea of agony
Your face I can't recognize
Don't make this hard on us
I will miss you if you just go away

[Pre-Chorus]
I did no right, you did no wrong
Nothing left but wasted days
I regret you leaving
But I will never take you back!

[Spoken]
"Don't call me anymore. It's just not- I don't feel the same about you. It's not as good as it used to be, used to be, used to be."

[Chorus]
Goodbye, one thousand times goodbye
The thought never crossed my mind
That this would be my last goodbye
Let me put pennies on your eyes
And kiss your lips one last goodbye
My love, one thousand times goodbye

[Chorus]
Goodbye, one thousand times goodbye
The thought never crossed my mind
That this would be my last goodbye
Let me put pennies on your eyes
And kiss your lips one last goodbye
My love, one thousand times goodbye

[Spoken]
"I'll always love you, but just not like that."
"Like what?"
"I want to be honest with you... I met someone else."
"You did what?"
"And I really, I really love him like I used to love you. Remember the time that I told you... that I was going out of town for business? Well, I went to see him."
"You know what? You suck!"

[Instrumental Break]

[Outro]
Goodbye a thousand times
"You'll always have a special place in my heart, you know that. It's just I can't be with you anymore, it's over."
Goodbye a thousand times
"Things may not work out with him."
Goodbye a thousand times
"And if they don't..."
Goodbye a thousand times
"Then I'll certainly call you."
Goodbye a thousand times
"You mean a lot to me. I still really want to be friends with you. I love you like you're my brother."

Megadeth

After being kicked out of Metallica, Dave Mustaine decided to form a Thrash Metal band that not only rivaled his former band, but played faster, more technical Metal. Along with bassist David ‘Junior’ Ellefson and a revolving door of guitarists and drummers, Mustaine set the world afire as Megadeth became known as the world’s state-of-the-art Speed Metal band throughout the 80s and the early 90s. One of the Big Four of Thrash Metal, Megadeth remains one of Metal’s most popular acts today.

However, Dave Mustaine’s fledgling band got off to a shaky start. Initially unable to find like-minded individuals, it was not until an altercation with his (underage) downstairs neighbours Dave Ellefson and Greg Handevidt, that led to him buying them beer and forming the first incarnation of the band with drummer Dijon Carruthers in 1983.

The band was named after a political pamphlet that referred to a “megadeath” (one million deaths by nuclear explosion):
