[Verse 1]
You think you're gonna take her away
With your money and your cocaine
You keep thinking that her mind is gonna change
But I know everything is okay

[Chorus]
She's gonna listen to her heart
It's gonna tell her what to do
She might need a lot of loving
But she don't need you

[Verse 2]
You want me to think that I'm being used
You want her to think it's over
You can't see it doesn't matter what you do
Buddy, you don't even know her

[Chorus]
She's gonna listen to her heart
It's gonna tell her what to do
She might need a lot of loving
But she don't need you

[Bridge]
And you just can't creep up behind her
And you can't understand that she's my girl
She's my girl

[Chorus]
Yeah, she's gonna listen to her heart
It's gonna tell her what to do
She might need a lot of loving
But she don't need you

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – an L.A.-based gang of sharp-dressed garage-rock refugees from Gainsville, Florida – released their debut LP in November 1976, featuring two tracks which are now part of their long list of hits, “Breakdown” and “American Girl.”

Since that first LP in ‘76, the band’s style has epitomized and largely defined the American “heartland rock” movement – a vintage-guitar twang, hard lyric truth, and searing vocal attitude.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been nominated for 17 Grammy awards and sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all-time.
