[Verse 1]
If I had my way
Truly had my way
Our love would never
Love would never have died (Never died)
Was it wrong of me
Wrong of me to think
That you'd always
Be here by my side

[Pre-Chorus]
Girl, I wish you would explain to me why am I not
I'm not deserving, deserving of your love
I'm filled with pain and so much agony
And God, how it hurts so deep
It's killing me, baby 'cause

[Chorus]
Love hurts
Guilty or be innocent
It don't make no difference
Love don't love nobody
I'm telling you love hurts (Ooh, it's gonna bring you down)
Though you might be innocent (You could be innocent)
Love treats you no different
Not from anyone (No, not from anyone)

[Verse 2]
Yes, you were my world
Truly my whole world
And I could never love this way again
(Never love this way again, baby)
Tell me how this man (Ooh)
Mends his broken heart
Find all the pieces
And knowing it's the end

[Pre-Chorus]
I know a man is not supposed to cry
But why not
I can't keep holding
Holding this inside
If you could feel my pain and agony
Oh girl, you would hurt so deep
'Cause it's killing me, baby

[Chorus]
Love hurts (Don't you know it, baby)
Guilty or be innocent (I could be innocent)
It don't make no difference
Love don't love nobody (No one)
I'm telling you love hurts (Ooh)
Though you might be innocent (You could be guilty)
Love treats you no different
Not from anyone (No, not from anyone)

[Bridge]
All I know is that I did my best to love you
But maybe sometimes love just isn't meant to
Isn't meant to be, baby
How I wish that love would spare me of this feeling
Because the pain inside, it's like a knife
And I can't hide how it's killing me, yeah, hoo

Oh babe, never felt pain like this before, baby
It's killing me

[Chorus]
I'm telling you love hurts (Oh, it hurt me, baby)
Guilty or be innocent (You could be guilty)
It don't make no difference
Love don't love nobody (No no, no, no, no, no)
I'm telling you love hurts (Ooh, i's gonna bring you down)
Though you might be innocent (You could be innocent)
Love treats you no different
Not from anyone (No, not from anyone)

[Bridge]
I tell you love don't love nobody
Baby, when you really think about it
'Cause every chance we take, a heart can break
Maybe that's the chance we have to take (Love hurts)
Tell me love is never easy
Say, it can take control of you completely
But if I had my way, our love would stay
Maybe I would never feel this pain
(No, not from anyone)

[Outro]
Love hurts
Guilty or be innocent (You could be guilty)
It don't make no difference
Love don't love nobody (Don't love, love no one)
I'm telling you love hurts (Don't hurt me, baby)
Though you might be innocent (You could be innocent)
Love treats you no different
Not from anyone (No, not from anyone)
Love hurts

Ralph Tresvant

Ralph Tresvant is the lead singer for the multi-platinum R&B group New Edition. Their first album Candy Girl was released in 1983. Following the departure of Bobby Brown in 1985 and the 1986 cover album Under the Blue Moon, Ralph was considering going solo as the direction of the group was in question. After Johnny Gill was added to the group in 1987, Ralph reconsidered and New Edition went on to release their most popular album Heart Break in 1988.

Ralph did end up going solo as the group took a break and he released his self-titled album in 1990, which yielded the #1 R&B hit “Sensitivity.” He went on to release two more solo albums–It’s Goin' Down in 1993 and Rizz-Wa-Faire in 2006–as well as two more New Edition albums in 1996 (Home Again) and 2004 (One Love). New Edition continues to tour and Ralph also began touring in 2008 with Bobby Brown and Johnny Gill as the Heads of State.
