[Intro]
Ah yeah, Tony Thompson and The Characters
Nitro and a little vintage flavor
From the old school to the new
Yo T, set it off...

La la la la la la, la la la la la la

[Verse 1]
My cherie amour, lovely as a summer day
My cherie amour, distant as the milky way
My cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore
You're the only one my heart beats for
Won't you say that you'll be mine

[Verse 2]
In a cafe or sometimes on a crowded street
I've been near you, but you never noticed me
Oh, cherie amour, won't you tell me how could you ignore
That behind the little smile I wore
How I wish that you were mine

[Chorus]
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
La la la la la la (it means I love you, baby), la la la la la la

[Verse 3]
Maybe someday, you'll see my face among the crowd
(And I'll be staring at you, looking right straight through your heart)
Maybe someday, I'll share your little distant cloud
(I wanna be on Cloud 9 with you, baby)
My cherie amour, pretty little girl that I adore
You're the only one my heart beats for
Won't you say that you'll be mine, be mine

[Outro]
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
(I've been waiting)
Want you in my life forever
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
Want you in my life forever
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
Want you in my life forever
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
Want you in my life forever (I want you, baby)
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
Want you in my life forever
My cherie amour, you are the one that I adore
And all that I've been waiting for
Want you in my life forever
My cherie amour

Tony Thompson

Tony Thompson (September 2, 1975 – June 1, 2007) was the lead singer of the Waco, Texas-based R&B quintet Hi-Five. The group was signed to Jive Records in 1990 and produced a number of successful singles with the most popular being “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)” from their debut self-titled album. The song reached number one on both the U.S. R&B Chart and the Billboard Hot 100. The group would go on to release two more albums–1992’s Keep It Goin' On and 1993’s Faithful–before disbanding in 1994.

Tony went on to record his debut solo album Sexsational for Giant Records in 1994 and released the album on June 23, 1995. The first single “I Wanna Love Like That”, which peaked at #14 on the U.S. R&B chart, was written by Babyface and featured production from Teddy Riley. The album featured contributions from a number of R&B stars including Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Al B. Sure!, Dave Hollister, Missy Elliott and DeVante Swing of Jodeci. The album peaked at #17 on the U.S. R&B Albums chart.

Thompson was briefly signed to Bad Boy Records to work on a solo sophomore release but nothing materialized. He re-formed Hi-Five with four new members to release an album in 2005 but three of the original group members filed a cease-and-desist order on the project.
