Friends, lovers, baby
Yeah, talk to me for a minute, listen

It's been a long time
Since I held you tight, oh, baby
It's been a long time
Since I kissed you good night
What's a man supposed to do
When he's still in love with you, girl

It's been a long time
Since we made love, oh, baby
And it's been a long time
Since I've told you that I care
What's a girl supposed to do
Now that it's over
Between me and you, baby

If we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
If our love has lost the magic
Let's be friends 'til the very end
Oh, if we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
Since our love has lost the magic
Let's be friends
(Friends, lovers)

It's been a long time
Since we said I do, oh, baby
And it's been a long time
Since we made plans for two
(Just for two)
What are we supposed to do
Now that it's over
Between me and you, oh...

If we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
If our love has lost the magic
Let's be friends 'til the very end
Oh, baby, if we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
Since our love has lost the magic
Let's be friends, you see, baby
(Friends, lovers)

Life is much too short
And we don't know when it will end
A sunny day or rainy night
There's no way of tellin'
And we can't throw away those years
Filled with happiness
We've got one good reason
To give it our best

'Cause inside you lives a part of me
And he's gonna need the two of us
To help fulfill his dreams

If we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
(Oh, my, my, oh, yeah, yeah)
If our love has lost the magic, baby
Let's be friends 'til the very end
(Maybe then we can be friends, oh...)
(Friends, lovers)
If we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
Since our love has lost the magic
(Our love has, our love has lost the magic)
Let's be friends 'til the very end
(Friends, lovers)

(Know when it will end)
We're gonna try
(A sunny day or rainy night)
(There's no way of tellin')
Can you see it my way, baby
Oh, baby

'Cause inside you lives a part of me
And we gotta make sure, baby
That he fulfills all of his dreams

If we can't be lovers, oh, yeah
Maybe we can be friends
(Oh, my, my, we can be friends)
'Cause if our love has lost the magic
One way that we can have it
Let's be friends 'til the very end
(Friends, lovers)
If we can't be lovers
Maybe we can be friends
(Since our love has lost the magic)
If our love lost the magic
I know that we can be friends
'Til the very end, whoa...
(Friends, lovers)

Baby, baby, baby
'Cause inside you
Baby, baby, baby
Is a part of me
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Let's be friends...

Kool & the Gang

Kool & the Gang is an American jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and disco group from Jersey City. They were originally named the Jazziacs when they formed the group in 1964.

They went through several musical phases during their recording career, starting out with a purist jazz sound, then funk and R&B, progressing to a smooth pop-funk ensemble, and in the post-millennium creating music with a modern, electro-pop sound.

The group was becoming prominent in the music industry in the 1970s with hits such as “Holly Wood Swinging”, “Jungle Boogie” and “Summer Madness”. However they cemented their legendary status after the addition of lead vocalist James “J.T.” Taylor. With his help they went on to create classic hits such as “Ladies Night”, “Celebration”, “Get Down On It”, “Cherish” and countless others.
