All the Queen's horses
All the Queen's men
They couldn't put us
Back together again

'Cause there's a fire
Burning in my veins
Slaughtered desire
And broken dreams

You came to me with promises
You'd never keep
And words like dying roses
Thorns that cut so deep

All the Queen's horses
All the Queen's men
They couldn't put us
Back together again

No golden kisses
No velvet throne (no velvet throne)
The King has left her all alone

Just like a serpent
You strolled into my heart
A vampire of the night
You shot your poison dart

You took my innocence
My money, and my pride
But you can never take
The love I keep inside

All the Queen's horses
All the Queen's men
They couldn't put us
Back together again, no

No golden kisses
No velvet throne (no velvet throne)
The King has left her all alone

(instrumental harmonica/strings solo)

No golden kisses
No velvet throne (no velvet throne)
The King has left her all alone

(Outro instrumental - whistled)

Shakespears Sister

Shakespear’s Sister is a pop-rock duo formed in 1988 by Siobhan Fahey, who left Bananarama after disagreements with the musical direction the band was going. The band was originally intended to be Fahey’s solo project, but immediately became a duo after she recruited American singer Marcella Detroit (aka Marcy Levy).
