[Verse 1: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
I owe you one
You made my day with the way you gave love
I owe you one (I owe you one)
I'll stay deep in debt 'cause I'll never get enough

[Bridge: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
But when it's time to collect
Girl, you can bet I'll remember
The way you made me feel
(Late at night) You showed me love was real (Oh so real)
(Hey! I wanna do for you what you did for me)
You gave me your love ever so tenderly (So tenderly)

[Verse 2: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
I owe you one
You've only to ask me, there's nothing I wouldn't do
I owe you one (I owe you one)
Just when I needed you, girl, you came through

[Bridge: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
And baby, you never asked if my credit was good
You just gave me love like you understood
(I returned the love) And you knew I would
(I can't help myself)
(I wanna do for you what you did for me)
You gave me your love ever so tenderly (So tenderly)

[Bridge: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
Let me hear you say
(Hoo, hoo, I owe you one)
(Hoo, hoo, I owe you one)
(Hoo) Hoo (Hoo) Mmm, mmm (I owe you one)
Gonna pay you back, baby, yeah, yeah
Hoo, hoo, I owe you one, uh-huh
Ha-ah, I'll pay you back, baby
Ha-ah, ha-ah, I'll pay you back, baby
'Cause you got it coming, girl
(Ha-ah, ha-ah, I'll pay you back, baby)
'Cause you've been so good to me
Ha-ah, ha-ah, I'll pay you back, baby
I owe you one, I owe you one, I owe you one, I owe you one
I owe you one

[Outro: Howard Hewett, Shalamar]
And when it's time to collect
Girl, you can bet I'll remember
The way you made me feel
(Late at night) You showed me love was real (Oh so real)
(Hey! I wanna do for you what you did for me)
I wanna do what you did for me, hey, so tenderly
I owe you one (I owe you one)
I owe you one (I owe you one)
Ooh-hoo, I owe you one (I owe you one)
Baby, you're the one (I owe you one)
Ooh baby
(Hoo) Ooh (Hoo) Hoo, hoo (I owe you one)
Gonna pay you back, baby, yeah
(Hoo, hoo) Let me hear you say (I owe you one)
Girl, you're the one (Girl, you're the one)
Girl, you're the one (You're the one)
You won't have to wait that long, honey, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna give it to you
'Cause you gave it to me, ooh-hoo-ooh
(I'll pay you back, baby) Right now
(I owe you one) Hey, yeah
(I'll pay you back, baby) Let me hear you say
(I owe you one) Girl, I'll owe ya
I'll pay you back, baby - I owe you one - I owe you one
I'll pay you back, baby - I owe you one

Shalamar

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group, active in the mid-1970s and throughout the 1980s. Their original lineup consisted of Jeffrey Daniel, Jody Watley, and Gary Mumford. The group went through various lineup changes throughout the years, with Mumford replaced by Gerald Brown, and again by Howard Hewett. The lineup of Daniel, Hewett, and Watley was the most successful, selling two Platinum albums (Three For Love, Friends) and one Gold album (Big Fun).

Despite more lineup changes in the ‘80s, the group still churned out hits such as “Dancing in the Sheets” and “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills”, which won them a Grammy.

Daniel, Hewett, and Watley eventually reunited several times in the ‘90s and as recently as 2015, playing in the UK where they’ve had the most success.
