[Verse 1]
I'm reaching out for you, but it's just an empty bed
Dreamin' that you were here, oh how quickly I forget
That You comin' through the door, is just an echo in my heart
And I try to pretend it's over, but it never gets verified

[Chorus]
Cause it just don't feel right when I know you're not there
And the sound of goodbye still follows me everywhere
And I just can't move on, but I feel my heart stop and stare
And the only thing I see are places you used to be

[Verse 2]
Took all your photographs, and I hid them all away
But each time I close my eyes, I'm staring at your face
I open the closet door, still a hint of your cologne
And I try to pretend it's over, but you're everywhere I go

[Chorus]
Cause it just don't feel right when I know you're not there
And the sound of goodbye still follows me everywhere
And I just can't move on, but I feel my heart stop and stare
And the only thing I see are places you used to be

[Bridge]
I still sleep in the shirt
You left on the chair
I still can hear you walk up the stairs
I still can hardly breathe
Each time I forget
That you're not
Here with me

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause it just don't feel right when I know you're not there
And the sound of goodbye still follows me everywhere

[Chorus X2]
Cause it just don't feel right when I know you're not there
And the sound of goodbye still follows me everywhere
And I just can't move on, but I feel my heart stop and stare
And the only thing I see are places you used to be

You used to be, yeah
Used to be, used to be

Toni Braxton (born on October 7, 1967) is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, record producer, actress, and philanthropist, and has been active since 1989. She is best known for her single “Unbreak My Heart” and her second album Secrets. Braxton was discovered early by William E. Pettaway Jr., who helped her launch her career.

L.A. Reid and Babyface brought Braxton in as a substitution and had her record a demo of “Love Shoulda Brought You Home”. The song made it onto the soundtrack of the movie Boomerang, giving her early success and recognition. Braxton started recording her solo debut album at LaFace Records on July 13, 1993, quickly gaining popularity as it peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
