[Intro]
Boy, you know I

[Chorus]
I heard it through the grapevine
That you ain't feelin' too fine
And I hope that you feel much better
Yes, I do (I really do, I really do), really
Happened on the day I left
Since that day you haven't been the best
(You haven't been the best, babe)
And I hope that you feel much better (Oh)
Yes, I do

[Verse 1]
You looked into my eyes
You said to me that night
That you would never cheat on me
Or break my heart
Inside I never knew
Your love was so untrue
I thought that I was your only
Boy, was I wrong, so wrong

[Pre-Chorus]
I used to hold your hands, we shared a deep romance
But girl, now you're gone and everything's gone wrong

[Chorus]
I heard it through the grapevine (Oh no)
That you ain't feeling too fine (No no no, baby)
Hope that you feel much better
Yes, I do (I really, really do, baby), really
Happened on the day I left
(It happened on the day I left)
Since that day you haven't been the best
(You haven't been the best, baby)
Hope that you feel much better
(I heard it through the grapevine)

[Verse 2]
We choose to play love games
We lose, we face the pain
Those lonely nights and that heartache
That empty space
I'll share with you my dreams
Those precious tender things
Everybody plays a fool
I guess I played my part for you

[Pre-Chorus]
I used to hold you tight and everything was alright
So cut me some slack and baby please come back

[Chorus]
I heard it through the grapevine
That you ain't feeling too fine (Oh no)
Hope that you feel much better
Yes, I do (I really, really do, baby), really
Happened on the day I left
(It happened on the day I left)
Since that day you haven't been the best
(You haven't been the best, baby)
Hope that you feel much better
(I heard it through the grapevine)

[Verse 3 Rap]
Breaking up with me was your way to get back at me
Making me live sadly, and havin' my homies laugh at me
Girl, I need you back 'cause you know I really want you
Damn, I miss the times when I could walk around and flaunt you
Remember the times we used to hold each other on rainy days?
No longer me and you, it's now Brownstone and MJJ
I know my yap ain't crap but my words is all I have
Please give me another chance to clean up my dirty past
'Cause I love ya

[Pre-Chorus]
Never do somethin' that'll catch up to ya
(You did me wrong and told me lies)
Never do somethin' that you'll live to regret
(You hurt me so bad now, baby)
Deep in my heart I feel sorry for ya
(You had to lose a damn good thing)
Lovin' me could have been good
(Losing my good love was such a shame)

[Chorus]
I heard it through the grapevine
That you ain't feelin' too fine (Oh no)
Hope that you feel much better (Hey)
Yes, I do (I really, really do, baby), really
Happened on the day I left
Since that day you haven't been the best
(You haven't been the best, baby)
Hope that you feel much better
Yes, I do

[Outro]
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, I heard it through
Heard it through, heard it through
Heard it through that grapevine
Heard it through, heard it through
Grapevine, grapevine
Heard it through, heard it through
Heard it through that grapevine

Brownstone

Brownstone is an female R&B trio that came to fame in the mid-90’s. The original members of the group were Nicci Gilbert, Monica “Mimi” Doby, and Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell.

They released their debut album From The Bottom Up on Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music label. It featured the #1 R&B smash “If You Love Me”.

Before recording their second album Still Climbing, they replaced Monica “Mimi” Doby with Kina Cosper. The second album yielded a solid hit in “5 Miles To Empty”, but the group disbanded before a third album could materialize.
