[Verse 1]
Birds are circling above
They're called back to a waiting glove
Oh, why don't they fly away?
Surely they'd have guessed by now
There is no gun to shoot them down
And still, they stay for what they say

[Chorus]
Are they killing them with lies?
Are they fighting for their lives?
Killing them with thoughts?
Can they never get enough?
Killing them are we killing
Killing every single feeling?
It's a trained response

[Verse 2]
Birds are circling above
They're called back to a waiting glove
This sordid game it bears my name
I have worshiped some false gods
I've run to them like Pavlov's dogs
To hide my shame and fan the flame

[Chorus]
Are they killing them with lies?
Are they fighting for their lives?
Killing them with thoughts?
Can they never get enough?
Killing them are we killing
Killing every single feeling?
It's a trained response

[Bridge]
We're all preset to reset to
Die
To die
We're all preset to reset to die
We're all preset to reset to die
Somebody told me once
Beat them till they start to get used to it
Next thing they're lining up

[Outro]
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing it?
Are we killing?

Bakersfield friends James “Munky” Shaffer, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and David Silveria formed the funk-rock band LAPD in 1989 and moved to Los Angeles with another friend Brian “Head” Welch as their roadie. Later, with Welch as second guitarist, the band named themselves Creep and recorded a demo with pal Ross Robinson.

However, when Shaffer and Welch visited family in Bakersfield, they met Jonathan Davis who added a darker, goth-tinged edge to the band’s heavy groove. Robinson

The band wasn’t dark yet; it had, like, killer grooves and good riffs, but there was some happy edge to it. And when (Davis) walked into the room, it went dark and goth. Basically, during the first song, to audition in the rehearsal room, he started freaking the hell out [laughs]. You couldn’t hear his voice, but you felt chills all over your body, and it was instantly like, “Oh my God, yeah – he’s the one.”
