[Intro]
By the beat
Say a prayer for me

Somebody say a prayer for me

[Verse 1]
I've been going 'round in circles
I'm about to lose my mind
Don't know where I'm going
Don't know what I feel inside
Things are going crazy and I'm feeling so doubt
All the friends I can't forget on crack and all strung out

[Pre-Chorus]
How did we get here? Tell me, who do we blame?
I thought that we were strong enough to get through an exchange
Who can explain it? Tell me, I'm so afraid
And who's to say that all of us won't end up the same way

[Chorus]
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)
I beg you please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)
Somebody please say a prayer for me

[Verse 2]
I've been thinking 'bout my problems and I know that they ain't runnin'
At least I could be thankful I ain't messing with no drugs
It's a time of indecision and that's just what we don't need
'Cause everyone ain't strong to fight the rappers that be

[Pre-Chorus]
How could we fight it? Tell me, how do we win?
It's time to get religious; yes, it's time to settle in
How do we end it? Tell me, how does it end?
And who's to guarantee that it won't happen once again?

[Chorus]
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)
Please, please, somebody please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, oh, somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)

[Bridge]
Give yourself a fair chance
Don't suffer the pains or the consequence
Don't let this thing take you over
We've gotta be strong for each other, ooh

(Somebody, somebody pray for me)

[Chorus]
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)

[Pre-Chorus]
How do we fight it? Tell me, how do we win?
It's time to get religious; yes, it's time to settle in
How do we end it? Tell me, how does it end?
And who's to guarantee that it won't happen once again?

[Chorus]
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, oh, somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)

[Bridge]
How did we get here, baby? How did we get here?
(Oh, who do we blame? Who do we blame?)
How do we fight it? How we gonna fight it?
Oh, how do we win? How do we win?
Please, somebody, somebody, some, somebody
Somebody...
Please, somebody, somebody, some, somebody
Somebody, somebody, somebody pray for me
How did we get here, baby?
Oh, who do we blame? Who do we blame?
How do we fight it? Oh, how do we win? How do we win?

[Outro]
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, oh, somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me
(Somebody, somebody pray, somebody pray for me)
Please, somebody please, please say a prayer for me

Pebbles

Pebbles (born Perri McKissack on August 29, 1964) is a singer-songwriter from the Bay Area. She got her start as a back-up singer for the Vallejo-based group Con Funk Shun in the early 1980s before breaking through with her self-titled debut album in 1987. Her first big single from the album was the L.A. Reid & Babyface-produced hit “Girlfriend,” which hit #1 on the R&B Singles chart and peaked at #5 on the pop chart. She followed that up with her biggest single “Mercedes Boy,” which also topped the R&B Singles chart while peaking at #2 on both the Billboard Hot 100 & Dance charts.

Her 1990 sophomore album Always was primarily written and produced by L.A. & Face. The album featured the #1 R&B singles “Giving You the Benefit” and her duet with Babyface “Love Makes Things Happen” as well as the Top 5 R&B hit “Backyard” with Salt-N-Pepa. On a personal note, R&B singer Cherrelle is her cousin and she was featured on the title track along with Johnny Gill.

Prior to the release of Always, Pebbles and L.A. Reid married in 1989. Following the release of that album, she began managing TLC under her Pebbitone company while they signed to LaFace Records. TLC filed for bankruptcy in 1995 and cited mismanagement by Pebbles as a source of their financial issues. This situation took a toll on her marriage to L.A. Reid and he filed for divorced the same year.
