[Verse 1]
I'm playing by my own rules
I'm doing what I want to
Living my own life
They look at me so crazy
Yeah, they tried to change me
No, they never satisfied

[Pre-Chorus]
They, uh
Think alike, talk alike
They go
Turn the left, I go right
They, uh
Keep low, I go high
Asking myself, wondering why

[Chorus]
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Verse 2]
I ain't a cookie cutter
You'll never meet another
I'm one of a kind
Wishing they could restrain me
I'll never let them chain me
I've got my own mind

[Pre-Chorus]
They, uh
Think alike, talk alike
They go
Turn the left, I go right
They, uh
Keep low, I go high
Asking myself, wondering why

[Chorus]
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf (Show me something new, baby)
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act (Show me something new, baby)
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Show me something new, baby)

[Bridge]
Guess it's just me, switching it up
(Show me something new, baby)
Build my own bridge, playing my own drum
(Show me something new, baby)
Told me give up, told me lie down
(Show me something new, baby)
It's the way it is, tell me right now, right now, right now

[Chorus]
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Everybody fit in a box on a shelf (Show me something new, baby)
I don't wanna live like that
All of them say I don't really know how to act (Show me something new, baby)
Tryna have me in a bag
I'mma do my own thing, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Show me something new, baby)

[Outro]
Guess it's just me, switching it up
Show me something new, baby
Show me something new, baby

Tinashe

Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe, known mononymously as Tinashe, is an American singer-songwriter, actress, dancer, and former model born in Lexington, Kentucky and raised in Los Angeles, California.

Born on February 6, 1993, her rise to fame began with her acting on shows such as Two and a Half Men. Initially making her debut in the music industry via the short-lived girl group The Stunners—which also featured Hayley Kiyoko—she garnered attention from online music blogs with her 2012 mixtape, In Case We Die. Signing with RCA Records shortly after, she released two further mixtapes later that year and in 2013: Reverie and Black Water respectively. “2 On” was released in January 2014 as the lead single from her debut album, Aquarius, and remains her biggest solo single to date. Released in October that year, the album was praised by critics for its merging of old-school R&B sounds and fresh 2010s trends. The follow-up was subjected to much-criticised although “Player” was billed as the collection’s lead single as early as October 2015, songs released from the project failed to reach the label’s expectations, resulting in the release of an album’s worth of outtakes from the album, Nightride, in November 2016. Joyride was finally released on April 13: it features the singles “No Drama”, “Faded Love” and “Me So Bad”.

On February 18, 2019, Tinashe parted ways with her longtime record label RCA. By November that year, she inked a new management deal with Roc Nation and self-released Songs for You, her fourth studio album.
