[Intro: Spoken]
A one and a two and a one two ready rock!

[Intro]
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Alright!
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo

[Verse 1]
You've got your mother in a whirl
She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl
Hey babe, your hair's alright
Hey babe, let's go out tonight
You like me, and I like it all
We like dancing and you look divine
You love bands when they're playing hard
You want more and you want it first

[Pre-Chorus]
They put you down, they say I'm wrong
You tacky thing, you put them on

[Chorus]
Rebel Rebel, you've torn your dress-suh
Rebel Rebel, your face is a mess
Rebel Rebel, how could they know?
Hot tramp, I love you so!

[Post-Chorus]
Owww!
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo

[Verse 2]
You've got your mother in a whirl 'cause she's
Not sure if you're a boy or a girl
Hey babe, your hair's alright
Hey babe, let's stay out tonight
You like me, and I like it all
You love dancing and you look divine
You love bands when they play it hard
You want more and you want it first

[Pre-Chorus]
They put you down, they say I'm wrong
You tacky thing, you put them on

[Chorus]
Rebel Rebel, you've torn your dress-suh
Rebel Rebel, your face is a mess
Rebel Rebel, how could they know?
Hot tramp, I love you so!

[Post-Chorus]
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo

[Outro]
You've torn your dress, your face is a mess
You can't get enough so you look up my dress
You've got your transmission and a live wire
You got your queue line and a handful of `ludes
You wanna be there when they count up the dues
I said I love your dress
You're a juvenile success
Oh, how could they know?
Well, how could they know?
How could they know?!?

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

After splitting with The Runaways, and releasing her first solo album, Joan Jett placed an ad in LA Weekly looking for bandmates. Gary Ryan, Eric Ambel, and Danny “Furious” O'Brien joined her, creating the orginial Blackhearts lineup.

After their initial tour though, O'Brien was replaced with Lee Crystal.

Early on, keeping the band afloat was not easy. Joan and producer Kenny Laguna struggled, sometimes selling copies of albums from the trunk of his car. Eventually unable to keep up with the demand for Joan Jett’s album, they signed with Boardwalk Records.
