[Verse 1]
I spotted you from across the room
You looked at me and then I looked at you
Our eyes met, it was so intense, baby
I had to see what could become of this

So I made my move across the floor
Grabbed your arm and headed for the door
I can't tell what happened then, baby
Before I knew it, I was in your spell

[Pre-Chorus]
I cried, oh
You took me by surprise, baby
I cried, oh
Such an innocent disguise, baby

[Chorus]
You're a deceiver
I never realized, I could fall in lovе
Just from one look in your eyes
I bеlieved ya, you're a deceiver
Girl, I love ya, can't you tell?
Oh yeah, m-hmm

[Verse 2]
I found out later when I finally came to
What happened to me and what happened to you
You took advantage of my love and my trust
You overpowered me with all of your lust

You said you'd promise, you'd never tell
What happened to me, under your spell
I don't know just what to do, baby
'Cause everybody knows about me and you

[Pre-Chorus]
I cried, oh
You took me by surprise, baby
When I look in your eyes, I said oh-oh
Such an innocent disguise, baby

[Chorus]
You're a deceiver
I never realized, I could fall in love
Just from one look in your eyes
I believed ya, you're a deceiver
Girl, I love ya, can't you tell?
Oh yeah, oh yeah

[Bridge]
When I look in your eyes
It's like I'm in a spell
It's like cosmic, you know what I mean?
It's so good for me, so sexy, mama say

[Pre-Chorus]
I cried, oh
You took me by surprise, baby
Believe me, babe, said oh-oh
Such an innocent disguise, baby

[Chorus]
You're a deceiver
I never realized, I could fall in love
Just from one look in your eyes
I believe, you're a deceiver
Girl, I love ya, can't you, can't you tell, girl?

(Deceiver) Oh!
(I believed ya) Oh, I love ya, oh, I love ya
(Believed ya, you're a deceiver) You're a deceiver, oh, baby
(Deceiver, I believed ya) Honestly, honestly, girl
(Believed ya, you're a deceiver) Really, really love ya, baby
(Deceiver, I believed ya) Sweet baby, sweet baby
(Believed ya, you're a deceiver) Oh!
(Deceiver, I believed ya) Girl, believed ya, baby
(Believed ya, you're a deceiver) Really, really love ya, baby, oh!
(Deceiver, I believed ya)
(Believed ya, you're a deceiver)

Shalamar

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group, active in the mid-1970s and throughout the 1980s. Their original lineup consisted of Jeffrey Daniel, Jody Watley, and Gary Mumford. The group went through various lineup changes throughout the years, with Mumford replaced by Gerald Brown, and again by Howard Hewett. The lineup of Daniel, Hewett, and Watley was the most successful, selling two Platinum albums (Three For Love, Friends) and one Gold album (Big Fun).

Despite more lineup changes in the ‘80s, the group still churned out hits such as “Dancing in the Sheets” and “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills”, which won them a Grammy.

Daniel, Hewett, and Watley eventually reunited several times in the ‘90s and as recently as 2015, playing in the UK where they’ve had the most success.
