[Verse 1]
All along I knew we had
The potential for a love affair
I could see it in your eyes
The sensuality was clear

Then you turned and walked away
You told me that you didn't care
But I know that in your heart
Your love for me is burning there

[Chorus]
My girl loves me (I know that you love me)
Yes, she loves me (Yoo-hoo-hoo)
My girl needs me (Oh, you need me)
Yes, she needs me (So bad)
Oh!

[Verse 2]
We've been having problems
Sometimes we just misunderstand
Emotions are strong
We let some things get out of hand

But the night's so long and cold
And empty when you're not at home
I remember the warmth of you
As I sit here by the phone

[Chorus]
My girl loves me (I know that you love me)
Yes, she loves me (It's burning so deep)
My girl needs me (Ooh-ooh)
Yes, she needs me (I know that you love me, baby)

My girl loves me
(Oh, my love, oh, my love, she loves me, she loves me)
Yes, she loves me (Always in your heart)
My girl needs me (You'll never part me, oh girl, oh girl)
Yes, she needs me (Oh-oh)
Bad

[Sax Solo + Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
I get to runnin' on automatic
I take for granted things are fine
Even if we're far apart
I've got to know that you're still mine

Will there ever come a day
That we can say we're one
I'm spending my precious time
Trying to make our love go on and on

[Chorus]
My girl loves me (I know she loves me)
Yes, she loves me (Heeey)
My girl needs me (You bring me care, yeah)
Yes, she needs me (Uh, do you really love me, baby?)

My girl loves me (Uh, do you really need me, sugar? Ooh, girl...)
Yes, she loves me (I know you're in my heart)
My girl needs me (We'll never part, you love me)
Yes, she needs me (Uh, little girl, you love me)

My girl loves me (Ooh, she needs me)
Yes, she loves me (I'm burning in your heart)
My girl needs me (Oh, I know that you love me, you love me, baby)
Yes, she needs me (Heeey, she loves me...)

Shalamar

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group, active in the mid-1970s and throughout the 1980s. Their original lineup consisted of Jeffrey Daniel, Jody Watley, and Gary Mumford. The group went through various lineup changes throughout the years, with Mumford replaced by Gerald Brown, and again by Howard Hewett. The lineup of Daniel, Hewett, and Watley was the most successful, selling two Platinum albums (Three For Love, Friends) and one Gold album (Big Fun).

Despite more lineup changes in the ‘80s, the group still churned out hits such as “Dancing in the Sheets” and “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills”, which won them a Grammy.

Daniel, Hewett, and Watley eventually reunited several times in the ‘90s and as recently as 2015, playing in the UK where they’ve had the most success.
