[Chorus 1]
Heartbreak
I can't believe the pain that it makes
I can't believe the strength that it takes
To close up all the wounds I've created this way

You're heading for a heartbreak
If you don't change the plans that you make
You're messin' with the wrong kinda lover
Don't you know that you're just a guy on the side?

[Verse 1]
She's just that type, she's thought about it
She wants so much just to be in demand
Some women love it
They lovе to flirt with all the guys in the band

[Pre-Chorus 1]
At night I need a good lover (Good lovеr)
I only want the best I can find (The very best)
I make myself believe there's no others
But sooner or later, I'll have to face my...

[Chorus 2]
Heartbreak
What's the sound a broken heart makes?
Now open are the wounds I've created
And the shadow of the face of my lady in his arms

[Verse 2]
I'm someone special
She tells me this and everything seems fine
But then it's just too much
When all the guys in the band smile each time she walks by

[Pre-Chorus 2]
But when she kisses me and starts to love me
I forget all the rest
'Cause when I'm feeling this good, all I'm thinking
Is that I'm lying here with the best

[Chorus 3]
I'll settle for a heartbreak
I can't believe the pain that it makes (I)
I can't believe the strength that it takes (Strength that it takes)
To close up all the wounds I've created this way

You're headed for a heartbreak
I better change the plans that I make
I'm messin' with the wrong kinda lover
I can't believe that I'm just a guy on the side

[Bridge]
(Now ask yourself why)
I just can't seem to shake it
I just can't break her hold on my heart (Heartbreak)
She's a very special part of me (A part of me)

[Chorus/Guitar Part]
All I can see is a heartbreak
It's too late this time

[Verse 3]
Oh, is she serious?
I'm just not sure, I'll take my chances tonight
But will I regret it?
What will I feel when it's too late to cry?

[Pre-Chorus 3]
I gotta be on my best behavior
And stop givin' in to this feeling (If you finally find a lover)
One that means more than the others
I'll be to used up to try

[Chorus 4]
I'll settle for a heartbreak
I just wanted to love you, baby
But you know that it's too late to cry
Uhm, and then you ask yourself why

You're headed... (Heartbreak)
Oh-ooh, baby, oh-ooh, sugar, ooh
Open all the wounds I created (Too late to cry)
The shadow of your face is in his arms, oh girl

Oh... (Heartbreak)
What's the sound a broken heart makes?
Oh, too late (This time)
Too late this time, it's too late this time

You're headed for a (Heartbreak)

Shalamar

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group, active in the mid-1970s and throughout the 1980s. Their original lineup consisted of Jeffrey Daniel, Jody Watley, and Gary Mumford. The group went through various lineup changes throughout the years, with Mumford replaced by Gerald Brown, and again by Howard Hewett. The lineup of Daniel, Hewett, and Watley was the most successful, selling two Platinum albums (Three For Love, Friends) and one Gold album (Big Fun).

Despite more lineup changes in the ‘80s, the group still churned out hits such as “Dancing in the Sheets” and “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills”, which won them a Grammy.

Daniel, Hewett, and Watley eventually reunited several times in the ‘90s and as recently as 2015, playing in the UK where they’ve had the most success.
