Have you ever taken flack from the bullies on attack
Cause you're different
They laugh and call you names but that ain't no badge of shame
Just cause you're different (show ‘em Dougie)
People gonna stare, you unsettle them and scare ’em
When you're different
Walking down the street when you pass they
Take a peek
There's something different
Live your life outside the box
Blow off all the empty talk
They focus on the things you're not
Just walk your walk
Age is not in years, it sits between your ears
You see it different
It's fun to break the mold and see it take ahold
And now you're different, too...
Yeah when you're walking down the block, the traffic starts and stops
Cause you ooze difference
Look, they treat you rough, but you're tough
Enough and we're all different, YEAH!!
I Know What I Know
I watch your conversation flow, the in's
And out's
In the end it goes to show that, I'm right to doubt (cuz)
I know, I know, I know, I know what I know
You tell me things don't work that way, that I'm so wrong
The narcissistic things you say, they don't belong
I know, I know, I know, I know what I know
Now I see your tricks, that you can’t fix you're in denial
Intuition is my guide, you've got no hope
And now you swear you never lie, like I'm some dope

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

After splitting with The Runaways, and releasing her first solo album, Joan Jett placed an ad in LA Weekly looking for bandmates. Gary Ryan, Eric Ambel, and Danny “Furious” O'Brien joined her, creating the orginial Blackhearts lineup.

After their initial tour though, O'Brien was replaced with Lee Crystal.

Early on, keeping the band afloat was not easy. Joan and producer Kenny Laguna struggled, sometimes selling copies of albums from the trunk of his car. Eventually unable to keep up with the demand for Joan Jett’s album, they signed with Boardwalk Records.
